Year of Gratitude - Day 44 - Frederick Douglass

Oftentimes, I try to read a few high school summer reading books or at least get them on my list to read at another time. In preparing for some travel time, I packed Frederick Douglass's autobiography, which was also combined with Harriet Jacobs's memoir. The book, entitled Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, An American Slave and Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, is one of the most graphic, stirring accounts of slavery and human rights abuse I have ever read. I was so inspired by these two individuals, who rose above a horrid system of slavery, learned to read and shared their important stories. The importance of these memoirs cannot be overstated.
