Why being poor is great

As I sit here and listen to all the world slowly sink in financial ruin, it makes me feel good to know that little of it has to do with me. I'm sure that won't last, but for the time being, it comforts me to know that myself and those around me are just a little too poor to be too affected.

There is a really twangy old time country song somewhere out there that sings about growing up in the Great Depression. One line that has stuck in my head is: "Somebody told us Wall Street fell / But we were so poor that we couldn't tell."

I laughed yesterday at realizing how well I can relate now. "Economy crisis? Gas is $3.10 a gallon. What crisis?"

Indeed. I saw gas for under $3 in Detroit and I was like "Woo-hoo - it's a good day, dang it!"
