Knowledge is cool and welcome!

First-Time, Long-Time
I've blogged for a long while, but it is time to fire up an all-library/archives blog. I actually opened this blogspot account a while ago with the intent to write an all library/archive blog, but never went through with it. It's pretty great because I love blogging and now I'm actually going to blog about something important.

Epic Battle: PC v. MAC
Professor Utz tossed out a couple really neat suggestions for the first blog. The one I started to tackle was PC v. MAC. [sigh] I love PCs. I have used MACs for publication (student paper) and those machines made me want to kill myself. These MACs would crash at the worst possible moments, namely on deadline days right before I saved my finished pages. Grrrr.

Behold, I give you...the iPod
I went on for years despising the MAC, always hearing MAC-users claim that they will never go back, especially IBook owners. Now, I have broken my boycott and wandered into the land of iPod. Everyone, I'm in love. This little fella' is so powerful. 60 Gigs, for crying out loud!

Podcasting rocks
How this iPod will tie into libraries is...Podcasting. I have already podcasted many radio shows, science programming, music, etc. I thought about how podcasting will help libraries and after some pondering, the possibilities are endless. Librarians will be able to create "information literacy" podcasts or other workshop-like podcasts (i.e. MS Office tutorials, research tips, etc). People perhaps will one day be able to podcast their favorite audio books. I'm intrigued. I love podcasting and I'm not alone. It will steadily become more and more popular and libraries should hop on this opportunity. This, just as RSS, will prove to be a powerful tool in the information business.
